In this episode I hike around the craziest colored lake I've ever seen by some mountain
00:06
streams that are glacier runoff.
00:08
This is one of the most strenuous but relaxing hikes I've ever done.
00:13
This is Nick with Bearded Adventures and we're bringing along with us, but first we have
00:18
to deal with a roadblock of goats.
00:20
Mountain goats are in my way.
00:25
The hike starts off on the northeast side of the lake near a hospital.
00:30
I'll put the name of that in the comments along with a link.
00:35
And then you hike around counterclockwise past several mountain streams that are runoff
00:41
from the glaciers.
00:43
And then finally back down a decent elevation to the base of the lake.
00:69
This is the start of a hike that you have to check the Swiss Army's web page to make
00:80
sure they're not shooting because it is a fighting range for the Swiss Army.
00:86
So this will be interesting and it's supposed to be a pretty intense incline up to a glacier.
00:98
It's interesting, the altitude is already kind of kicking my butt, but this area in
00:106
Switzerland is close to the Italian border so you never know if you need to speak German
00:113
or Italian.
00:114
I just passed a couple, they were German, but yeah, it's pretty neat.
00:120
But yeah, this hike so far, you can see, look at the view, it's freaking amazing.
00:126
This area has got unique rock formations to it and it holds a few different rock climbing
00:155
festivals throughout the year.
00:157
I learned that when I got back and did a little research in the area.
00:162
I just, I love this whole area, it's beautiful.
00:216
Good morning.
00:217
Good morning.
00:245
Look how crazy this lake is.
00:305
It's hard to describe how crazy this hike is surrounded all by giant mountains.
00:327
It's pretty sweet though.
00:335
It's crazy.
00:336
It's crazy.
00:337
It's crazy.
00:338
00:366
Yeah, this is completely worth depleting all of my vacation time.
00:415
So it appears the Swiss Army may have dammed this up, I'm pretty sure, that stream in order
00:439
to make this lake.
00:441
I'm not 100% sure why, but I'm glad they did it.
00:446
It makes it a beautiful hike.
00:451
Yeah, this is future me.
00:452
I did do some research and they did dam this lake up.
00:456
There's a village underneath that lake actually, but they dammed this lake up to make a reservoir
00:464
for hydroelectric power.
00:466
There's a hydroelectric dam and station further downstream from the lake here.
00:473
But yeah, this provides power to probably a whole lot of people.
00:527
Oh babe, thank you for bringing me along with you.
00:534
Look at this.
00:536
Hey, real quick, I want to talk about the AllTrails app.
00:540
I'm on a hike right now where the trail kind of comes and goes through the rocks and I'd
00:546
be lost if I didn't continuously check my AllTrails to make sure I'm on track.
00:551
But you can see this is a pretty amazing hike.
00:561
All this trail is marked very well with these markers.
00:592
All right, let's go.
00:620
I've ran into so many people on this hike.
00:647
Very, very nice people.
00:649
People from France, people from Switzerland and Germany.
00:654
And everyone's been great.
00:659
They're very surprised to see a boy from Michigan here.
00:662
But yeah, this is a pretty awesome hike.
00:669
Yeah, this sign says watch for falling rocks.
00:673
I didn't know that until I had service and could check on my phone the translation.
00:684
Look at the sheep up there.
00:686
I don't know if they're domestic or mountain goat sheep.
00:691
Not goats.
00:693
But yeah, look at the sheep up there.
00:696
I'm not sure if they're wild or domestic, but it's kind of neat.
00:700
I was wrong.
00:701
They were goats.
00:702
They were farm-raised animals that were out grazing.
00:706
Coming down the last of this, coming down the last of this hike.
00:714
I don't know whether it would have been better to come around clockwise instead of anti-clockwise the way I came.
00:722
But, well, maybe I got the hard part done in front of me.
00:728
Otherwise, I would have default descent over there.
00:732
My incline was rough over there with lots of rocks.
00:735
This is actually a much smoother, more dirt path than what I took on the way up.
00:745
So if you do this hike, I would suggest you do it clockwise.
00:753
All trails told me to go anti-clockwise, so there it is.
00:784
Here's some more of those mountain goats that were on the trail here.
00:789
You can see over the distance there.
00:791
You can hear some bells as well.
00:808
Well, that's the end of this hike.
00:810
Well, that's the end of this hike.
00:811
If you're still here, I appreciate you.
00:814
I do love making this kind of content because it just gets me out in some beautiful places.
00:819
But I appreciate you.
00:821
Thank you for watching, and I hope to see you on the trail.
